First Church of the Gospel Ministry Announces the Passing of Bishop Dr. Davy Ray Kendrick and Continuation of Ministry Operations

BUCYRUS, Ohio – First Church of the Gospel Ministry announces with deep sorrow the passing of its beloved Bishop, Dr. Davy Ray Kendrick, who departed this life on January 11, 2025. Link to obituary.

Dr. Kendrick, affectionately known as “Dr. Davy,” dedicated his life to ministry, music, and serving others. Throughout decades of service, he touched countless lives through his preaching, mentorship, songwriting, and leadership. His influence extended far beyond Bucyrus, Ohio, reaching individuals and ministries around the world.

Following a period of declining health and recovery from a stroke, Dr. Kendrick passed peacefully on January 11, 2025. In accordance with his wishes, a small private family gathering was held on January 13. His final resting place will be at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery in Seville, Ohio.

“Therefore we do not lose heart. Even though our outward man is perishing, yet the inward man is being renewed day by day. For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, is working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory, while we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.”

As many members and friends of the ministry know, Dr. Cathy J. Kendrick was ordained alongside Dr. Davy and has faithfully served the ministry for many years. She will continue the work and vision to which Dr. Kendrick devoted his life and leadership.

“Dr. Davy wore many hats throughout his years, but ministry was always his deepest calling,” said Dr. Cathy J. Kendrick, Bishop of First Church of the Gospel Ministry. “His passion for serving others and spreading faith, hope, and love through ministry and music was evident in every aspect of his life. We are committed to ensuring that his legacy continues through the work of this ministry.”

To support the church during this transition, dedicated volunteers have stepped forward to assist in carrying forward the ministry’s mission and daily operations. The church also continues its database modernization efforts. Members and friends are encouraged to submit updated contact information to ensure continued communication regarding ministry news and activities.
